Montemagno keynotes the 2009 conference on nanotechnology for the forest products industry

(Nanowerk News) Join your industry colleagues for the 2009 International Conference on Nanotechnology for the Forest Products Industry, which will be held June 23-26, 2009 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. The theme of this year’s event is “Unlocking the Potential of Nano-Enabled Biomaterials.”
Dr. Carlo Montemagno, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Cincinnati will make a keynote presentation, “Nano-Enabled Biomaterials for Sustainable Living,” on Thursday, June 25.
Dr. Montemagno joined the University of Cincinnati after serving as the Chair of the Department of Bioengineering and the Roy and Carol Doumani Professor in Biomedical Engineering at UCLA. Previously, he worked at Argonne National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy. He also spent nine years in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps.
With an exemplary career in research, Dean Montemagno has focused most recently on three principle areas: 1) the application of advanced micro and nanotechnologies to translational medical applications; 2) the development of hybrid living-nonliving functional materials for energy transduction and sensing; and 3) the creation of engineered systems that manifest emergent intelligence. He has received many distinguished awards and honors and holds eleven patents.
In addition to Dr. Montemagno’s presentation, the Conference’s technical program will include more than 40 presentations focusing on:
  • Manufacture and Characterization of Nanostructured Cellulose
  • Managing Environmental Risks and Concerns
  • Nanocomposites
  • Global Challenges
  • Nanotechnology and Paper
  • Novel Nanotechnology Applications
  • Cellulose Nanofiber Synthesis
  • Emerging Markets
  • Nanoscale Characterization
  • The Conference will also include two additional keynote presentations. This internationally known event brings together leading researchers, industry experts, government representatives and other stakeholders to share advances, perspectives and discuss new ideas and breakthrough concepts on nanotechnology-based advances.
