Postdoctoral Researcher Multi-physics simulations of switchable scatterers for real time video holography

The Wave-Based Sensing and Actuation department is exploring, developing and optimizing advanced optical beam forming strategies in wavelength ranging from THz through NIR and visible to UV. These systems result in ultra large arrays of nano-photonic antennas used to steer, focus or in general shape light for various applications. In the case of video holography projection in the visible, billions of antennas must be addressed in phase and/or in amplitude at 100-200 Hz within sub-wavelength pitches. The goal of this research is to develop novel fast and ow power high optical efficiency and contrast switchable scatterers based on various physical switching principles.
Within this context, imec is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher on next generation truly holographic 3D video projection, working not only on hologram generation but also (de-)compression.
You will be responsible for:
Exploring existing and emerging memory technologies and their potential for optical switching below optical wavelength
Simulating multi-physics behaviour of switchable scatterers (thermo-opto-mechanical; electro-optical; strain-optical; ...)
Integration engineer and material scientists
Algorithm developers to jointly define optimisation direction for scatterer performance
ASIC and system designers for the mapping and performance of algorithms on actual hardware
Experimentally verifying scatterer performance and define test setups for this purpose
Generate and secure IP
Keeping up-to-date on all recent developments in the field. You do this by studying literature, interacting with your colleagues. Also, you will have access to the other imec development work in the field of memory and optical beam forming.
You have a PhD in Material Sciences, Electrical Engineering or Physics.
We value your experience with
ANSYS or COMSOL
Fundamental research in analytical and numerical simulation of complex wave-based systems
Optical system modeling
Doing experiments with complex experimental optical setups or scientific instruments
Modeling using advanced computer software
We need your analytical skills and experience with mathematical packages for processing complex datasets (such as Matlab).
We think it is important that you can work in a structured, transparent and accurate way.
We appreciate your constructive way of working in a team and sharing of experience and knowledge with colleagues.
Your networking skills, creativity, persistence and passion for what you do are highly valued.

This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
