VSLI 2008 to highlight advancements and future of multi core processor systems

(Nanowerk News) For the first time the organizers of International VLSI Conference have announced an international Student Conference providing an opportunity for 2000 Student delegates to participate and to interact with leading VLSI and Embedded Systems Architects, Technology experts and, to take part in a series of technology and product presentations at the 2 International Conference on VLSI Design and 7th International Conference on Embedded Systems. The main conference will highlight the Next Generation Challenges and opportunities in Multicore Processor Design in Hyderabad from January 4th -8th 2008, at High Tech International Convention Center (HICC).
Maintaining the tradition of the conference, the three-day technical program of the joint conference on January 6-8, 2008 will feature keynote and plenary talks from world leaders, high-quality technical paper presentations that reflect the state-of-the-art in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems. Dirk Meyer, President and COO, AMD will be presenting the opening keynote speech followed by Plenary Keynote Address by Wally Rhines, CEO, Mentor Graphics - About new paradigm with in India - why experience is sometimes a bottleneck. Other keynote speeches include Alain Artieri, Senior System Architect, ST Microelectronics, France who will address the System design challenges and solutions for future Nanoscale process technologies and Anantha Chandrakasan, MIT Design will cover the topic on Considerations for Next Generation Micro-Power Systems.
Making the Students Conference announcement for the first time in the conference history, Mr. Dasaradha R Gude, General Chair and Organizing Chair of the VLSI Committee 2008 said “The conference founders recognize the importance of supporting VLSI and Embedded Processor Design education. While our formal education teaches us the basics for managing a particular subject, it is important to realize how vital the industry participation is for the development of student orientation to deal with reality of their career and prospects.

The organizers expect a huge turnout for this year’s event. Since the first conference held in 1985, the annual conference has grown into a leading international conference on VLSI design, which draws around 700 attendees from India and abroad every year. Apart from power packed keynote speech and plenary sessions leading EDA and IT companies will be displaying their products from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during January 6-8, 2008 at the technical exhibition and industry forum. Vendor presentations and panel discussion on industry on emerging VLSI and Embedded systems topics will take the center stage over a separate parallel track during the three days.

Another attraction for students in this year’s conference is “Student Design Contest – VLSI 2008” for operational and conceptual designs that are open to full-time graduate and undergraduates. The aim of the student contest is to promote excellence in the design of electronics systems in universities and educational establishments by providing a venue for students to showcase their designs.
Sponsored by the VLSI Society of India (VSI) and IEEE among others, the joint conference is a forum for researchers and designers to present and discuss various aspects of VLSI design, Electronic Design Automation (EDA), enabling technologies, and embedded systems. It covers the entire gamut of activities under the two arms of the semiconductor industry; namely VLSI, and embedded systems.
