Nanotechnology helps change color of pearl

(Nanowerk News) These pearls in various colors are produced by researchers from the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. The researchers use nanotechnology to make pearl in other colors.
They implanted the particles of gold, silver, and copper on the pearl surface to enable it to produce new colors like grey, black, pink, and yellow. The method can change the color of pearl but doesn’t change other features like polishing and shining.
"We tried to search the information on the Internet to find out how to change the color of pearl. All the information said the pearls in different colors are cultured pearl. But it’s not that so. Now we have our a new method which we have developed to change the color of pearl.", said Assoc. Prof Sanong Akkasit.
The most important thing is that the color of pearl we create won’t change if the pearl skin doesn’t flake off. The new technology can be another option for pearl lovers who can find pearl in more colors than traditional white.
