TechConnect World announces The CancerNano 2009 Symposium May 3-7

(Nanowerk News) TechConnect World, in association with the Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI), and the Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI), today announced the CancerNano 2009 Symposium, scheduled to take place at TechConnect World, May 3-7, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
The two-day CancerNano 2009 Symposium brings together the foremost thought-leaders from the academic, industry and government sectors, to discuss clinical translation of nanotechnology for cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The Symposium is co-chaired by Mansoor Amiji, who is the Professor and Interim Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences Department and Co-Director of the Nanomedicine Education and Research Consortium (NERC) at Northeastern University, as well as Vladimir Torchilin, the Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University.
Featured sessions in the CancerNano 2009 Symposium include:
  • Keynote address - Cancer Grand Challenges, by John Mendelsohn
  • Keynote address - Nanotechnology Opportunities in Cancer, by Mauro Ferrari
  • Early Cancer Detection with Nanotechnology, by Rebecca Richards-Kortum
  • Thermal Therapy for Cancer, by Steven A. Curley
  • Cancer Target Identification and Validation, by Renata Pasqualini
  • Enhancing Cancer Therapy with Nano-Delivery Systems, by Jim Klostergaard
  • Targeted Nanoparticles for Cancer Therapy, by Ananth Annapragada
  • Lessons Learned in Cancer Nanotechnology, by Scott E. McNeil
  • Clinical Translation of Cancer Nanotechnology, by Piotr Grodzinski
  • and a Food & Drug Administration Perspective, by the FDA's Wendy Sanhai
  • "We're extremely fortunate to host this symposium in Houston, where we can draw heavily upon the experts from the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, and so many others that are playing a central role in CancerNano research," said Dr. Mansoor Amiji. "I'd like to personally thank Dr. Mauro Ferrari and his team for their contributions to this program, and I'm looking forward to working with him, and all of our presenters at the Symposium."
The CancerNano 2009 Symposium is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institutes of Health. More than a hundred additional sessions are scheduled throughout the May 3-7 event. NSTI is still accepting abstracts for "Poster Presentations," which allow researchers to share their research with colleagues, fellow presenters, and the entire audience attending the TechConnect World Conference & Expo. The Deadline to submit an abstract is March 27th. Additional details are available at: http://www.nsti.org/Nanotech2009/symposia/Cancer.html.
The CancerNano 2009 Symposium sessions are among the more than 2,700 presentations featured at the Nanotech '09, Clean Technology '09, and TechConnect Summit events. An extensive lineup of Keynote addresses, from companies such as: Continental Airlines, Lockheed Martin, NREL, Exelon, and many others, will provide the insights of top executives from the largest companies in the world - who are actively involved in some of the most significant projects across the clean, bio and nano tech industries.
